Free AI Mock Interview Practice: What You Get and What to Expect

Try a free three-minute AI interview on HotSeat with a realistic question, follow-up, live captions, and a short report.

By the HotSeat teamUpdated September 20267 min read

Searching for a free AI mock interview often leaves you with three questions: What is free? Do I need an account? Is this a real conversation or just a list of questions wearing a clever hat?

HotSeat gives each account one free three-minute readiness check with Maya. It uses no credits. Here is what happens, what you get, and what the short session cannot cover.

The short answer

Create a HotSeat account and complete your career profile. You can then take one free three-minute live interview with Maya. You do not need credits for it.

You will answer a spoken question, handle a follow-up based on your answer, use live captions if needed, and get a short report. Longer interviews and more practice require a monthly plan or credits.

What happens in the free interview

  1. 1

    Create an account

Your account keeps your career profile and interview report in one place.

  2. 2

    Build your career profile

Add your target role and a few details so the question fits your goal.

  3. 3

    Meet Maya

Start your free three-minute live interview. Your camera is optional.

  4. 4

    Answer the first question

Speak as you would in a real interview. Turn on live captions if they help.

  5. 5

    Handle a follow-up

Maya listens to your answer and asks for a useful detail instead of reading from a fixed list.

  6. 6

    Read your report

When the interview ends, you get a short report about your answer.

What you get for free

IncludedNot included
One free session per accountUnlimited free interviews
Three minutes of live practiceA complete 15, 30, or 45-minute interview
A realistic opening questionEvery question you may face in the real interview
An answer-aware follow-upA guarantee that the employer will ask the same thing
Live captions and optional cameraA certified or proctored hiring assessment
A short interview reportA prediction that you will get hired

Prepare for two minutes before you start

The interview is short. Do not spend half of it trying to remember which job you want.

  • Know the target role: Choose the job you want the practice to reflect.
  • Pick one useful experience: Think of a project, internship, job, volunteer role, or college example that shows a relevant skill.
  • Check your microphone: Use a quiet place and make sure the browser has microphone permission.
  • Do not write a script: A few notes are fine. Reading a paragraph tests your reading, not your interview skills.
  • Leave room for a follow-up: Give a focused first answer rather than trying to squeeze your entire career into three minutes.

How to answer the opening question

If Maya asks which experience best prepared you for the role, avoid giving a list of everything you have done.

A list without a point

“I have worked on many projects in college and also completed an internship. I know React, JavaScript, Node, SQL, Git, and several other technologies, and I am a fast learner.”

This answer lists work and tools, but it does not show what the candidate can do.

One relevant example

“My internship prepared me best because I had to take a feature from a vague request to a working release. I clarified the requirement with the product manager, built the React interface, and fixed two accessibility issues found in review. It taught me how to turn feedback into a better product instead of treating the first version as finished.”

This answer gives Maya a clear example, shows what the candidate did, and leaves room for a useful follow-up.

What to do after your free interview

  • Read the feedback: Choose the one point that would improve your next answer the most.
  • Check what you said: Good advice should point to a missing detail, an unclear sentence, or a claim you did not support.
  • Answer again: Say the answer out loud with one change. Reading advice does not build a habit. Repeating the answer does.
  • Choose your next practice: Use a live interview for spoken pressure. Use a text interview when you want more time to work on structure.

The free interview is available once

Each account gets one free three-minute readiness check. It uses no credits. For longer or repeated practice, you can choose a monthly plan or buy credits that do not expire.
